VAN-COKE-KARTEL-&-RELIGION-PANORAMIC_FINAL_SQUARE_-_Fred_Van_Leeuwen

ISO se Alex parker, was die Superband se wildcard toevoeging.

Die groep is tans besig om aan nuwe material te werk wat teen einde September 2013 vrygestel gaan word.

The notoriously rockingly loud festival will take place on the picturesque shores of Riviersonderend. Aptly named the ‘Circle of Dreams’, the 2013 venue provides the perfect backdrop for a phenomenal festival experience and promises to win over the biggest anti-campers amongst us.

RAMfest organizer, Dawid Fourie says that this venue will without a doubt become one the best festival venues in the country. Fourie further ads: “We are very excited about the amazing artists we have secured this year and we are looking forward to celebrating Real Alternative Music.”

The booming lineup Fourie refers to include; Rise Against (USA), British Metalcore band Bring Me The Horizon, Paul Harding and Ben Verse from Pendulum (Australia and England) Jack Parow, Van Coke Kartel, Beast, Goodnight Wembley and many more.

The festival will showcase these mind-blowing artists on four epic stages:

Van Coke Kartel maak Chaos lewendig!

16 Jan Francois-In-Chair-as-Smart-Object-1[1]

27 Sep VCK_Meal - Jaco S Venter_HR

For Van Coke Kartel, the open road is no new dragon to be slayed. Wynand Myburg happily states– the band loves touring. “We love being on the road and performing every night. That is what we do!”

The band’s currently putting tire to tar, taking their rocking vibe across country. On the 3rd of October the band kicks off their Van Coke Kartel CHAOS Tour presented by Jagermeister, Monster Energy and Music Connection. This tour will also the Kartel take their show to the heart of big-hole country, Kimberley, for their very first Kimberley gig. This is proof of the Van Coke Kartel ideal; making sure their live music reaches all fans across the country.

Another exciting Van Coke feat to look forward to, is this year’s Heineken Symphonic Rocks. This is the first time an Afrikaans band will be included in the line-up. Van Coke Kartel will be accompanied on stage by a 65 piece Symphonic Orchestra. This is one show worth planning a road trip around. “We have always wanted to be part of Heineken Symphonic Rocks and this year it is happening. We are looking forward to the dynamics of performing with a 65 piece orchestra!” Wynand says.

As if these rocking busy bodies are not …well…busy enough – Spring will also see Van Coke heading back to the studios to work on some new material with the great Theo Crous. The new material will see light of day next year. According to Wynand, it’s been 10months since the release of the hugely successful Wies Bang and its time put out some of the new material they have been working on. Wynand says, “We are not 100% sure when and HOW we will be releasing the new material. For now we are focusing on producing great tracks. We are also working closer with Theo on the new material as we liked his input on Wie’s Bang.”

Apart from all the touring, the symphony and the recording of new material, there’s also the case of the MK MVP that jumped into the Kartel’s pocket. This year Van Coke Kartel walked away with an MK MVP for Buitenkant II. They will be working on this project with Groundglass, one of South Africa’s leading director-based film production companies. “Music Videos are so expensive and it is great to get a nice budget from MK to produce one! Dankie MK! Buitenkant II was written in 2007 by Francois, Hunter and myself. Five years later we are making a video for an acoustic version.” says Wynand.

Gerald Clark to undergo surgery on the eve of new album launch.

23 Jul gerald_clark1[1]

Gerald Clark, veteran of SA blues scene, just received word that he is to undergo surgery on his vocal chords. This news comes mid of Clark’s preparation to re-launch Blues and Lovesongs under a brand new moniker – Black Water.

The launch date was set for the 30th of August at Mercury Blues Sessions.

The surgery required by Clark, will see doctors remove a growth that has been obstructing his vocal chords. This will effectively leave Clark with only two-thirds of his vocal ability.

Through a press release received from Clark’s PR, Ice Carstens, Fans are assured that the release of the album will go ahead as planned in August.

Clark is expected to be back in action by the end of October, and he plans to reschedule his Black Water tour for November/December.

More about the man…

Clark started his career as the frontman of blues outfit, Delta Blue. The band toured extensively – nationally and internationally – between 1999 and 2005.

In 2005, Clark kicked off his solo career in a big way with the release of his critically acclaimed Afrikaans album Sweepslag. The album received a SAMA Award nomination, three Tempo – and two Vonk nominations. The intervening years, saw Clark collaborate with the likes of Stephan Dixon, Albert Frost, Luna Paige – as well as industry heavyweights Van Coke Kartel, Dan Patlanksy and Bok van Blerk.

Clark recently returned from the US, where he blew the minds of audiences in Nashville, Memphis and Jackson. An album is in the works, and recording will commence as soon as Clark has fully recovered from surgery. The songs featured on the new album will fall under the blanket term – Country Soul, a term Clark has coined to describe the new direction his songwriting is exploring. These new tracks are set to haunting melodies that serve to support the varied nuances of Clark’s distinctive voice – a mature and contemporary take on his established style.

The Album is set for release in March 2013.

Best wishes go out to Clark in this coming few weeks.

We wish him a speedy recovery, and anxiously anticipate the big things we know are coming his way!

Frankie is on fire…

5 Jul

A group of five friends, Francois Du Toit (lead vocals & guitar) Heinrich Pelser (backing vocals & guitar) Francois De Bruin Meyer (backing vocals & bass) Freddy Helliwell (drums) Kyle Mitas (piano, sax and backing vocals) – bound by their unique passion for good music, fun times and the inability to dance, make up the exciting group that is Frankie Fire.

Frankie Fire came to life in 2009.

In 2010 the band released their first EP, Seven. The singles Pretty Girls, All Day In The Sun and Melody enjoyed phenomenal success on radio stations such as TUKS FM and OFM.

Frankie Fire

Frankie Fire sports a unique sound encapsulating anything from blues, pop to hard-, punk- and melodic rock. The result of their sound is attributed to, “an exciting fusion of music and emotion resulting from varied tastes, styles and experiences.” With their expertise and knowledge of the music and entertainment industry, it is no surprise that Frankie Fire is unlocking a whole new market.

2012 saw the band release their highly anticipated debut full length album, Take It In. The album was recorded by Grammy award winning producer, Daryl Torr, in Johannesburg and mastered in Seattle at Spectre Sound by Troy Glessner.

“We are very excited to have worked with Daryl Torr – one of the top producers in the country. Having our album mastered by Troy Glessner who is responsible for numerous international breakthroughs, including Death Cab for Cutie, is an absolute dream come true” Says Francois Du Toit.

The first single off the album, SOS, raided the airways of many a campus radio station. The momentum gathered by the success of this single, was followed by the palylisting of its video on MK.

With a relentless touring schedule, including two successful December tours with Crash Car Burn, and appearances at numerous festivals – including headlining slots at Oppikoppi – Frankie Fire have made sure they stay relevant and on the lips of fans and critics alike.  The band who’s sound have been compared to the likes of The Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, Bruce Springsteen ,aKing and Pearl Jam, have also shared the stage with local greats such as Prime Circle, Elvis Blue, Van Coke Kartel, aKing, Fokof Polisiekar and Heuwels Fantasties.

Frankie Fire live

The band has worked hard and endured much since their birth in 2009. The momentum gained from the good response to their new material, is a sign of big things to come Frankie Fire’s way.

Definitely a band to keep a sturdy eye on.

Festivals they have rocked include, Kaktus op die Vlaktes at KKNK, Splasy Fen and MK by die Dam. The band was also part of the Campus Invasion Tour as well as the more recent VanFokKingtasties tours. Keeping to their usual route of shows and travels has also been thrown to the wind – with Van Coke Kartel having already taken their show to a few places they have never played before, such as Vereeniging, Midrand, Alberton and Klerksdorp.

Keeping momentum is definitely on the forefront of the Van Coke agenda, with the band getting ready to set winter ablaze with what promises to be an explosive winter tour. Their winter tour will see Van Coke Kartel introducing a brand new set with more material off their critically acclaimed – and hugely successful – fourth album, Wies Bang. Old favorites off the previous three albums will not be forgotten of left behind, with the new set showcasing the band’s growth through the diversity of their songs – ranging from a softer sound to the harder edgier songs fans have become accustomed to. The live versions off Wie’s BangNou Of Nooit, Einde van die Wêreld, Brein Verloor and Dankie, ek is Veilig hier – will definitely add some extra spice to Van Coke Kartel’s already rocking line-up.

Best live act in SA – and they have the award to show for it.

Ray-Ban SA backs local music with another rocking colab – Sunglasses at night

Ray Ban SA backs South – African music with another winning combination.

As part of their on-going love affair with South – African music, Ray-Ban South – Africa teamed up with Tommy Tucker, a Cape Town based music collective and a diverse group of local musicians – resulting in the creation of the static cover of Corey Hart’s 80’s classic, Sunglasses at Night.

Locnville twins

Die Heuwels Fantasties, aKING, Van Coke Kartel, Thieve, Locnville and JR put their creative minds to work, and met in studio to record their versions of the track. Their combination of rock, rap and electronic sounds, resulted in quite the little chart climber – with Sunglasses at Night raiding the charts of several radio stations nationwide.

Pierre Greeff & Andrew Davenport

The vocal fusions of the Locnville brothers, Heuwel’s Pierre, Van Coke’s Francois and aKING’s Laudo added a distinctive edge to the track – very rarely found in these types of collaborations.                                                                                                                                      Phillip Erasmus from Tommy Tucker commented, “The experience of combining so many different artists on the Sunglasses at Night track was a lot of fun.  Everyone made their parts of the song their own and gave a fresh spin on Corey Hart’s 1984 original.”

JR

Upon receiving the track Corey Hart – himself – gave it his stamp of approval, commenting,                                                                                                                                        “I’m flattered by their choice of single for this project; I think they did a slamming hip on the song”

Hennie

Following on the success and momentum gained by the song – a video for the track has also now been released.

Jed Kossew

The video – made available for online viewing – was filmed at various locations in Cape Town, directed and produced by Philip Erasmus of Tommy Tucker, filmed and edited by David Swart – with additional footage done by Jaco “Snakehead” Venter. Regarding the essence of the video and what it represents, Erasmus says, “The music video is a visual representation of the kind of energy that these artists brought to the studio and shows how professional musicians, contrary to popular belief, don’t necessarily take themselves too seriously.  Set in the northern parts of Cape Town, each character revisits the simplicity of growing up in the suburbs, where shopping malls and parking lots are places of endless possibility.  A special thanks to all the artists involved for taking the time to make this video possible, Tygervalley Shopping Mall, N1 City Shopping Mall and the Abarth Uno Turbo Club of South Africa.”

Francois van Coke

With an UNO street dash featuring Laudo and van Coke, Pierre Greeff in streetwise sweats, JR sporting a hairnet and the Locnville twins bullying over Fokof’s Snake – this lekker vid is definitely worth the download and share.
