Parow and Friends Rock for Cool!

Gary Cool Benefit Show ft. Jack Parow, P.H.FAT & Friends

Wednesday, 8 May – The Assembly

Gary Cool is a well-known rock in the local music industry. The 2Oceansvibe Radio and AFM 91.3FM Rock radio DJ strives to promote and support the local music scene in whichever way he can.

Gary recently suffered some major injuries, when a driver ran a robot and collided with his motorbike. Gary crushed and fractured bones in his tibia. He also fractured his collarbone. He was hospitalized for three weeks and underwent two operations.

After his accident, Gary was left temporarily disabled and unable to work for a few months. Obviously this had very real financial consequences for Gary and his family. This included a pile of medical bills and a reduced monthly salary. Knowing this, Ray-Ban and Assembly decided to help Gary and his family out with a benefit concert that promises to blow minds.

Naturally, Gary’s friends in the industry have raised their hands to perform and help raise funds for this much loved and respected individual.

The show will be headlined by one of Gary’s favorite artists and friend – Jack Parow.  Parow will also be filming the event for his DVD. Other artists who have offered to perform are – P.H.FAT, Sideshow, DJ Invizable, DJ Naaldekoker, Stone-Age Citizens and Einstein Adonis, with two more acts to be announced.

Parow_fridge - Gillian Coetzee

The event will take place on Wednesday the 8th of May at Assembly Cape Town and tickets will cost you only R30 and R40 if you arrive after 10pm.

R30 to watch some top class local acts and to support one of our local music industry’s biggest champions – I say BARGAIN!

Click here to join the event on Facebook: www.facebook.com/events/120495208150730/

After almost 2 months of not being on air – Gary Cool will be back on radio on Monday 6th May from 9pm to midnight on AFM 91.3fm.

Van Coke Kartel maak Chaos lewendig!

16 Jan

DOP: Robo Wilson

Vervaardiger: Wilma Smit

A Parow bulletin. In this bulletin…

29 Nov

The dangerous romantic rapping giant is keeping busy – and that’s probably the understatement of the year.

Here’s the latest Parow news:

In this bulletin:

Parow says, MERRIE BLERRIE X-MAS and Afrikaans is dood!

Eksie OU smacks it to nr 1 on the 5FM top 40

In sporting news…

Parow to play Tennis?

And in other news …

Where to party with Parow this Festive season.

Jack Parow  is done and dusted with the shooting of the video for his end of year single, aptly named –  Merry Xmas.

The video was shot in Durban and produced by long – time friend Warren Haviside. Warren’s ad agency and production house, SUGAR, ensured the video hit the spot.

According to Warren, the video came out quite different to the way in which they initially planned for. Their vision was to capture Durban at its best – showcasing amazing summer locations with load of sunshine.

Mother Nature had a different concept in mind.  Warren says, “The weather had other plans for us and it ended up raining non – stop for a like 5 weeks. We had to think quick and box clever and shoe – horn a few things, but in the end it all turned out well.”

For Warren and his team the main thing they focussed on, was pinning down the persona and demeanour which made Jack Parrow…Jack Parrow.

“We didn’t try to make as if it was some huge production with endless budget – although the video did cost a bit! We rather focussed on making it look quite low – brow, keeping it slightly Zef and steamy,” says Warren.

The first day was shot in studio. Warren laughing states the level of crazy to the situation, “We had about 30 extras – zulu dancers, snakes, kids, girls, fat people, skinny people, gear, crew – it was just mal!”

The second day was shot on location – on the Durban beach front, on the hotel strip and in uShaka Marine World. Warren commends the amazing team they worked with on the video. “The team were all so selfless and threw themselves into the video. Although SUGAR produced the video – we have to thank people like Sean Laurenz & Harold Holscher (Directors) for the time they put into it. Drury who did the styling – she was amazing. Jimmy Reynolds & Lee Jackson (DOP’s) and David Gouldie who did choreography and Lindsay Nixon (make up) who was responsible for all the extras that were so forthcoming. Kraft Post & Mushroom Media should be commended  for cutting the video and doing all the grading and treatments.”

Another powerful driving force that carried them through the video was the tight relationship between Warren and Parow.

“I’ve known him for years and it allowed us to always ensure that the essence of Jack Parow was never lost in this video, but rather captured”, says Warren.

Watch Merry Xmas here – NOW!

DJ Naaldekoker, delivering beats so phat you’ll wanne call a dietician!

27 Sep

DJ Naaldekoker is best known for the scratching of the vinyls alongside SA’s favourite dangerous romantic rapper, Jack Parow.

This summer will see this Naaldekoker truly take flight with the launch of his solo career.

DJ N has been touring alongside SA’s favourite rapper since 2009. Alongside Parow he has accumulated a hoard of fans and supporters, securing a steady base from which to take flight. His debut offering of brand new original tracks – some featuring hand-picked guest artists – and phenomenal live DJ’ing skills, is sure to add to that!

The first single, The Meltdown, will feature the established dance duo Goodluck. The track is an epic auditory voyage that carries the listener through a haunting soundscape of lush and anthemic production.

Listen here: http://soundcloud.com/dj-naaldekoker/dj-naaldekoker-feat-goodluck

On the next single to be released later this year, Ek smaak jou (I like you), DJ Naaldekoker teams up with popular rapper, JR, showing off the lighter and fundamentally funky side to his rich repertoire. Ek smaak jou is driven by needle-sharp rap skills and an irresistible beat, putting the song firmly in contention to become this summer’s anthem.

Other tracks on DJ Naaldekoker’s pending full-length album include ironic reworks of local sokkie dance hits – one of which is a devious dub-step parody of Kurt Darren’s Kaptein.  It illustrates DJ Naaldekoker’s creative ability to blend tongue-in-cheek mischief with authentically phat sounds.

Listen here: http://soundcloud.com/dj-naaldekoker/kaptein-dj-naaldekoker-remix

With beats so phat you’ll wanne call a dietician, unmatched turntable wizardry and high-profile collaborations, the stage is set for DJ Naaldekoker to become the hottest commodity on the South African dance scene.

Mid-Effekt starts to take effect

20 Aug

Mid Effekt – described as hard rocking, ball busting and energetic – are the proverbial new kids on the musical block.

For the past two years, this Gauteng based band has been putting their backs into their craft– working hard to imprint their names within the local music arena. Their hard work have generated much dividends on their behalf, with the band placing 6th in the Global Moguls Competition(getting the chance to take to the stage with Jack Parow), securing an opening slot during UK based band, Scoundrels’ South African onslaught –  and more recently, placing 11thin the Converse, Get out of the Garage competition.

Rob, Dylan, Goggs, Misty, Riddles & Ronny have taken their cross cultural mish-mash of sounds and influences to produce a sound that – according to them – has an across the board appeal. The band have made it their mission to steer clear of what seems to be tried and tested –focusing on the creation of a sound  that is completely their own. In their own words, “Mid-Effekt is a movement that creates and combines elements of soulful, rhythmical hip-hop and post-rock, Trip Rock”

Like many South African musicians, these men still hammer at a their 9-5 jobs. This does however not keep them out of the studio, or off the stage. If you have not yet caught the effect of Mid Effekt on stage, make sure to catch them at the Boston Rock Fest which takes place on Saturday the 25th of August in Edenvale.

For more information of the event, check out http://www.wherevent.com/detail/Musa-Mntambo-BOSTON-ROCK-FEST.

Mid-Effekt latest track “Play with my Ego” is available for free download until the 27th August here: http://www.reverbnation.com/mideffekt
